Sailing the ocean blue - again!

Here we are in the south of France - weather beautiful and we have a brand new 37 foot boat. It's the tallest boat in the photo attached! Have been sick as a dog today getting to grips with my sea legs ( decidedly out of practice!). Fortunately Chris is made of sterner stuff and managed to get us to calm waters in the gulf of St Tropez ... Cocktails now in hand and feeling much better!

Cooking again ...

My final cooling lesson of the trip! Delicious 5 course meal - chicken and coconut soup, panthaeng red curry to name just two. I will be subjecting nearest and dearest to testing!

Today I am headed north - trekking to the hilltribes in the mountains. Leaving bags at base, I am staying in what looks like a tree house. There will be no Internet so the blog will go quiet for a couple of days. Will be strange to be out of range of civilisation.

Watch this space for the next installment!

Chilling in Chang Mai

Another hectic day - a scorpion tail boat ride on the river ping, visting the monks at Doi Suthep, seeing beautiful Wat's (temples) and now chilling with large cocktail (bar in picture below). I keep forgetting to take photos with my iPhone - I'm taking so many with my camera. Tomorrow I have a cookery class - hoping to make green curry!

Chang Mai

It's been a while since I have had Internet connection and so much has happened! I had a fabulous few days in Kao Tao - an island about 2 hours south of Koh Samui. It's wonderful for diving - the sea surrounding the island is like a fish bowl - there is just so much to see! Audrey and I then headed off to Bangkok's second largest national park for a couple of nights. We managed to see elephant and porcupine (amongst other things) on a night safari trip. Audrey has now deserted me and I travelled up to Chang Mai by overnight train last night - v exciting! I've been exploring today - so many stunning buildings all over the city. This is a rubbish picture but may give you an idea of what I'm seeing. I'm off to a budhist temple tomorrow to meet some monks. Have managed to find the arty designer shops too - no surprises there then!

Will update again tomorrow - for now, thinking of home ...

Chilling at the Kamalaya in Koh Samui, Thailand

Phase 2 of this month's travels has begun - I left Vietnam on Sunday and have landed in paradise here in Koh Samui. We're staying at a beautiful spa and enjoying being pampered, lying on the beach and eating VERY healthily (almost too healthy with a detox menu available all the time...). Fortunately, there is a wine menu so we are surviving (important not to take things too far!).

Hoping that Chris will be able to post a photo showing the view from our villa for me [done!]... for now, am off for another minimalist meal!

Hanoi

We really took our lives in our hands today - intrepid explorers in Hanoi. The city feels relatively safe except for the traffic which is completely mad. Bikes, cycle cabs, cars and pedestrians all jostle for position and never stop. Our guide told us just to step out and keep walking - eye contact is fatal. near death experiences normal! Here's the view from our cycle cab - the poor man cycling Audrey, me and the shopping back to the hotel just about made it without a heart attck - I think the little seats are designed for 1 small Vietnamese person only!

Halong Bay

This is our boat - we've been cruising around Halong Bay. The bay is breathtakingly beautiful and the photos just can't capture it (although I've worked hard trying to do so!). The boat was also stunning - colonial feel with polished wood, beautiful rooms and great gin and tonics! I can't quite believe that nearly a week has gone by. We have one more cooking class and some sightseeing in Hanoi and then we're headed for Thailand.

So much to see and do still!
